Panel Members Needed for Lincoln High School's Senior Exhibition

Lincoln High School's Center for Science & Engineering (Building 400) and Public Safety (Building 300) are holding their 2nd Annual Senior Exhibition. For this event we need representatives from the Science & Engineering and Public Safety community to serve as panel members. Panel members will evaluate a 5-7 minute oral presentation given by S & E and PS graduating seniors. All presentations will be held in designated Science & Engineering and Public Safety classrooms. There will be an orientation for all panel members in the Center for Public Safety penthouse.

Build a Future -- An evening of music supporting San Diego East County High School Shop Classes

Visit to ULA Highlights Need for Engineers to Educations, Students

The Chapter’s STEM – Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics – Committee sponsored a tour of the United Launch Alliance facility in Old Town. Co-located with SPAWAR headquarters, the ULA builds Centaur rocket motors for the nation’s space program. As part of the Chapter’s commitment to increased awareness of the nation’s need for scientists and engineers, the STEM Committee, with the support of Lockheed Martin, arranged for a tour of the ULA facility for educators, members, and engineering students on February 24th.

Girl’s Day Out (SDSU)

I (Jim Rohr at SSC Pacific aka SSC San Diego) have taken the liberty of inviting you and any middle school girl's that you know to an outreach event at UCSD (Jan10th) or at SDSU (Feb 21st)called Girl's Day Out. The event (10:30 - 1:30) starts with short talks by women STEM professionals from the community. Then there are short tours of the university as well as a bunch (8-12 depending on the number of volunteers we have) of table top demonstrations for the girls to engage in.

Cyber Defense Challenge

San Diego High Tech High Students Nick Estorga and Adrian Feral participate in a recent Cyber Defense Challenge competition at SAIC. Joint sponsored by SAIC, UCSD and the Chapter, the Cyber Defense Challenge leverages an SAIC simulation for training network administrators to recognize and respond to attacks on a network. In the Challenge, teams of students from local high schools act to neutralize network attacks under the guidance of SAIC trainers.
