Dean Kamen invented the Segway and holds over 440 U.S. and foreign patents. He will speak and host a Gala Reception and Dinner to benefit FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) Robotics in San Diego on October 22, 2009. Meet Dean and the local FIRST robotics teams comprised of local students from Kindergarten through High School. Dean founded FIRST in 1989 as a non-profit to inspire young people to pursue education and career opportunities in science, technology, engineering and math ( STEM), while building self-confidence and life skills. Since its inception, FIRST has grown to hold 42 annual Regional Competitions across the globe. Don’t miss this incredible opportunity to meet & hear Dean Kamen.

Proceeds and sponsorship will support San Diego’s FRC Regional Competition to be held at the San Diego Sports Arena in March 4-6, 2010. The Regional Competition kicks off the season where teams meet to compete with their robots and gives teams from around the world a chance to visit our beautiful city. Having a regional event in San Diego helps the local teams cut down on travel cost and time away from school. All of these teams are currently supported in part by local corporations that provide funding and mentors to help guide the students through the competition season.
