What is STEM?

Science. Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) education is becoming a hot topic in the defense industry as the pool of technical talent available to work in defense-related industries shrinks.  Unless current trends are reversed, DoD and the defense industry are facing a shortage of STEM-educated people of the next thirty years that might well turn into a crisis of talent.

NDIA considers the impending shortage of STEM educated people in the workforce one of its most serious issues.  In particular the San Diego defense industry recognizes the need for a work force grounded in the scientific and engineering disciplines, capable of supporting the high technology industrial base that has been essential to the region's service to the military and accordingly, the local economy.  The San Diego Chapter established its STEM Committee in 2007 to address STEM education in our area.

Please see the PDF file attached below for a full description of Science, Technical, Engineering, Math (STEM) Education and why NDIA is concerned.
